Worrisome Week

There's a worrisome article on Slashdot at the moment, that links to several news sources carrying reports about the state of the ice in the North Pole. It seems that the current rate of melting will more than likely leave the North Pole without ice in September this year. The Northwest Passage is currently free of ice for the first time known to man.

How is it that there is still a debate about global warming and whether it is actually happening or not?? This evidence if pretty compelling - whether humans are the cause or not is kind of a moot point - it's happening right now regardless of blame. It's a pretty scary future for my kids.

On a less worrying note, Diablo 3 has finally been announced. I was a huge fan of the original and it's sequel, although I have a hard time playing games with such low resolution nowadays. So it was with great joy that I watched the gameplay demo on the Blizzard website. Wow it looks totally awesome. I just know I'm going to lose a big chunk of my life to that game when it finally comes out!

Oh yeah - and will somebody in Australia please launch their iphone plan already?!?!?!

Yeah, Diablo III looks like it has pretty good graphics.

More importantly, the ice at the North Pole; Scientists have worked out that its all Santa Claus' fault.

Due to the population of Earth being nearly 7 billion, Santa needed lots more Elves to help build and make all the toys. Consequently, all that extra body heat AND the fact that Santa has caught up with the 21st Century by installing super-efficient central heating, he's causing the ice to melt.

Well, this is an interesting point isn't it. Would some parents avoid recognising this problem because it would mean admitting to their kids that there is no Santa? I mean, how could there be? There is nowhere to live at the North Pole if there is no ice. It scares me that people's fanciful notions would prevent them from even recognising the clear and present danger that this being proved to us by science - but how can I trust that the people of the world will react to this when many still believe in fairy tales like gods? Scary scary scary.

I agree, and, there's more evidence that there is a Santa Claus/Father Christmas than there is a God ie Christmas presents, a fat bloke in a suit etc and also the Tooth Fairy because kids sometimes find money under their pillows where a tooth was the night before but...fairy stories is what they are and it's the children that believe in them but, unfortunately, there are millions and millions of allegedly mature, adult people that have no evidence nor PROOF, just a faith in the Bible. They believe in a story that has been embelished, corrupted, misinterpreted, wrongly translated and edited thoughout history.
